Summer Reading Program



2018 Summer Reading Program

Children from Birth to age 17 may participate with a University City Library card. Parents of preschoolers under age 4 may keep track of the books read to their child(ren) beginning Saturday, May 19. Those 4 years and older keep track of how much time is spent reading (in 15 minute increments). You may download and print the log sheets at home by clicking on the links below:

  Reporting times:
  Fri., May 25, through Fri., July 20.
  Mon. - Fri.     3:00 - 7:30 p.m.
  Sat. & Sun.    2:00 - 4:00 p.m.

 

  • Children who report on at least 1 hour of reading can spin the Prize Wheel.  
  • Every time a young reader reports, they get a chance to win the Drawing of the Week. Drawing of the week prizes will be on display in the library.
  • Report once to get an invitation to the Family Swim at Heman Park Pool.
  • At 12 hours, readers earn a family invitation for the Finishers’ Party, receive a Certificate, choose a Prize Book, and a get voucher for a pair of St. Louis Cardinals Tickets (while supplies last).
  • 16 hour readers earn a chance for a grand prize.
  • 20 hour readers earn another grand prize chance.
  • Children in 1st grade & up who read 24 hours get their names on the Outstanding Reader List posted in the library and on our website. They also earn an Outstanding Reader window sign, and a grand prize chance.
  • 36 hour readers earn another grand prize chance.

Prizes:

  • Wheel Prizes include food coupons to local businesses, art supplies, bowling passes, tickets to The Magic House and River City Rascals, and other incentives.
  • Drawing of the Week prizes include books, items donated by local businesses, movie passes, and gift cards.
  • Grand Prizes include gift cards to local businesses, a 20" bicycle, a limo ride home from school, tickets to local events, and more.

Special Events
As always we have lots of activities and fun performers coming to UCPL this summer. We have a long list of events for kids and special teen events.
